SI’s widow receives Rs 30 lakh under Rakshak Plus scheme

A cheque for Rs 30 lakh was presented to Rani Bharadwaj, the widow of police sub-inspector Pawan Kumar who was posted in Rudraprayag district and had died in a road accident. The Punjab National Bank Dehradun zonal manager Sanjay Kandpal presented the cheque as part of the Rakshak Plus scheme in the presence of the state’s director general of police Ashok Kumar.
The DGP informed that as a major welfare measure for police personnel in Uttarakhand in 2019, a memorandum of understanding for salary package was signed between Uttarakhand police and PNB. As part of this agreement, those police officers and personnel whose salaries are drawn through PNB were provided personal accident insurance cover of Rs 30 lakh without paying premium in case of death in an accident etc. Under this scheme the bank has provided the insurance cover amount to dependents of 13 police personnel since 2019.
Similarly, an MoU had been signed with the State Bank of India under police salary package in 2018 to provide Rs 25 lakh personal accident insurance cover without paying premium in case of death by accident etc. Following renewal of the MoU in 2021, the insurance cover has been raised to Rs 50 lakh. Since 2018, the State Bank of India has paid the insurance cover amount to dependents of seven police personnel.
