The deputy chief minister of Delhi and senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Manish Sisodia said his party will address the grievances of people displaced by Tehri dam if elected to power in Uttarakhand. Sisodia who is on a two-day visit to the state said this on Wednesday when he was in Tehri constituency to participate in door to door campaign of the party for the state assembly elections. He said that it is unfortunate that locals who were displaced due to the construction of the Tehri dam still struggle in the state. He said, “We will resolve the problems faced by the people displaced by the dam if the AAP forms the government in the state. We will also ensure that Uttarakhand gets Rs 1,100 crore that Uttar Pradesh gets as a revenue share from Tehri dam. This amount would be enough to provide 300 units of electricity for free to every household in the state or use in the welfare projects for the people.” He also lambasted Congress and BJP stating that both parties have together destroyed the state in the past 21 years during the terms of their successive governments as the public did not have any other viable option to choose from. He said, “Both parties have drastically failed to achieve the aim for which Uttarakhand was separated from UP after the long struggle of the state’s agitators and martyrs. This assembly election is the chance to end the connivance of Congress and BJP who have destroyed the state in the over two decades together.” Sisodia also participated in the door to door campaign in the Baurari village of Tehri for AAP candidate Trilok Singh Negi. He said that he met many people who told him that they want to give AAP and its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal a chance. “The political air has changed here. Uttarakhand has a very positive attitude towards AAP and its government’s work in Delhi. Even those who have never been to Delhi know about the development there due to their friends and relatives there. I observed during my visit that many did not know our leaders’ name but they knew AAP as ‘Jhadu wali party’ that developed Delhi,” said the AAP leader. Sisodia departed to Haridwar in the evening and is scheduled to visit Rudrapur for door to door campaign in Kichcha on Thursday.
