SIT arrests another advocate in land registry fraud case

Saturday, 14 OCTOBER 2023  | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested the 18th accused in the Dehradun land registry fraud case late on Thursday night. The accused is an advocate identified as Devraj Tiwari (64) who was allegedly involved in selling the Defence Ministry’s 55 acres of land in Majra by making fake deeds. The police came to know about his involvement in the case during the interrogation of Mohammad Humayun Parvez who was arrested on October 12, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He said that Tiwari along with other arrested accused including Samer Kamyab and Parvez formed fake deeds and necessary documents using old papers bought from Saharanpur besides using tea and coffee to present them as old and authentic documents. “They took the help of a man named Dev Kumar who worked in the Saharanpur registrar’s record room to know how they could prepare a fake registry document of the said land in a way that it appears genuine. A woman named Sana Saifi helped in making English documents as per Kamyab’s instructions. They took the help of Kumar to place the fake deeds in the registrar’s office and sent an application for demarcation of these lands to the respective sub divisional magistrate office and the Uttarakhand High Court. A joint team inspected the land and later the demarcation proceedings were rejected. According to the team, the said land was transferred to the Defence Ministry by the then district magistrate in 1958 and it is still in the ministry’s possession. This rejection failed their plan to commit a big fraud,” said the SSP. He said that the SIT is arresting accused members of different gangs who have been involved in land registry fraud in one way or another. Many white-collared criminals are also on the police radar and will be arrested soon, added Singh.
