SIT arrests former BJP leader & main accused in Lekhpal-Patwari & AE/JE paper leak cases

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Haridwar finally nabbed the main accused of the Lekhpal-Patwari and Assistant and Junior Engineers (AE/JE) recruitment examination paper leak case, Sanjay Dhariwal. The accused is a former Bharatiya Janata Party leader who went underground after the scam in these recruitment examinations became public.
The senior superintendent of police of Haridwar, Ajai Singh, who is monitoring the SIT, said that Dhariwal was arrested from the Narsan border of the district on Saturday. He said that Dhariwal came out to be the main accused in the scams orchestrated in these recruitment examinations and the SIT had even announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to his arrest. The SSP further said that the police have registered a case against Dhariwal in Kankhal police station under sections 409, 467, 468, 420, 471 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code. The accused had allegedly helped many candidates solve the examination papers of Lekhpal-Patwari and AE/JE recruitment examinations at his brother Sudhir Dhariwal’s house in Karnal, Haryana in exchange for lakhs of rupees, said the SSP. He said that the SIT has recovered Rs 4.25 lakh in cash, two blank cheques and a vehicle from the possession of the accused. He said that so far, SIT has arrested a total of 38 accused in the Lekhpal-Patwari and AE/JE examination paper leak cases.
It will be recalled that the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) had conducted the JE examination from May 7 to 10 last year and a total of 3,853 candidates were selected in this written examination. The AE examination was conducted from April 23 for four days through which 531 candidates were selected by the commission. The Lekhpal-Patwari examination was conducted by UKPSC on January 8. The SIT is investigating all angles and the remaining accused will be nabbed soon, said Singh.
