SIT arrests two more accused in Patwari paper leak case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested two more accused from Haridwar in the Lekhpal-Patwari recruitment examination paper leak case on Wednesday. Both accused Dharmendra Kumar (27) and Devi Singh (30) had allegedly monitored the candidates at a resort in Haridwar’s Biharigarh gathered there to memorise answers of the leaked examination paper. The senior superintendent of police of Haridwar, Ajai Singh, who is monitoring the SIT formed to probe the irregularities in the Lekhpal-Patwari examination held on January 8, said that Devi Singh is a student of one of the main accused Rajpal and Dharmendra is a cousin of the main accused Sanjeev Dubey. Singh said that many important pieces of evidence were found during the investigation on the basis of which, the accused Devi Singh and Dharmendra were arrested from Haridwar.

He said that according to them, they both were paid Rs 25,000 each in advance to monitor the candidates in the resort in Biharigarh and admitted that they have spent the money. He said that the SIT is collecting evidence to gather information about candidates who bought the examination paper and were brought to resort to take action against them. The SSP said that the SIT has arrested 15 accused in the case so far and all have been sent to jail. These 15 accused are UKPSC section officer Sanjeev Chaturvedi and his wife Ritu Chaturvedi, Sanjeev Dubey, Manish Kumar, Pramod Kumar, Rajpal, Ramkumar, Sonu, Deepak, Saurabh, Abhayram, Ankush and Suresh besides Dharmendra Kumar and Devi Singh. The Uttarakhand police constituted SIT to investigate irregularities in the Lekhpal-Patwari examination of Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) held on January 8. The investigation was initially conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) but the state government ordered the formation of an SIT to probe the matter after receiving backlash for yet another recruitment scam in the State. The SSP said that the SIT is collecting concrete evidence and will soon arrest all the accused involved in the paper leak case.
