The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Haridwar Police has filed a chargesheet in court against 60 accused in the Lekhpal-Patwari examination cheating case. These 60 accused also include 40 candidates who allegedly bought examination papers to clear the examination and remaining are those who were involved in leaking the examination paper, said the Haridwar senior superintendent of police, Ajai Singh. He said that the police had sent legal notices to 40 candidates before filing the chargesheet against them. Out of these 40 candidates, 33 hail from Haridwar, five belong to Uttar Pradesh and one each to Champawat and Dehradun. Singh said that the Uttarakhand State Task Force nabbed five accused on January 12 including Sanjeev Chaturvedi who was working as UKPSC section officer and his wife Ritu for leaking Patwari examination paper. STF also registered a case against the accused in Kankhal police station under Section 409, 420, 467, 468, 471, 120B and 3/4 of the Uttar Pradesh / Uttarakhand Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Prevention Act 1998. Two days later, a separate Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed in Haridwar to probe the matter. The SSP said that SIT has worked day and night to nab the culprits and has gathered all evidence necessary to bring them to justice. He said that SIT has gathered crucial physical and scientific evidence in the case including CCTV footage of cameras installed in and around the places used by culprits to leak the paper. The police also have evidence like CCTV footage of purchases of items made by them like printing machines to print papers and mobile phones used by them while committing the crime. He said that the police have also recovered blank cheques, educational certificates and lakhs of rupees in cash which the guilty parties took from candidates who wanted to clear examinations through cheating. “I am satisfied that Haridwar SIT has gathered sufficient scientific and other evidence in this complex case and reached the right culprits,” said Singh.
