SIT starts investigation in conspiracy to murder cabinet minister

In the sensational case involving the conspiracy to murder Uttarakhand cabinet minister Saurabh Bahuguna, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is working to get Police Custody Remand (PCR) of the four accused who were arrested on Monday. The senior superintendent of police (SSP), Udham Singh Nagar, Manjunath TC formed an 11-member SIT on Tuesday including two inspectors, four sub inspectors and five constables that has started its investigation on the case of conspiracy to kill Bahuguna.
The superintendent of police (SP-city) of Rudrapur, Manoj Katyal informed that the team members are working on different points to investigate the case besides doing surveillance, analysing electronic evidence and using technological means to gather more information on the case. He said that the SIT is also trying to get PCR of the four accused to gather more evidence in the case. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Kumaun Range, Nilesh Bharney also held a meeting with the police officials concerned to discuss the developments in this high profile case on Wednesday.
The additional chief secretary Radha Raturi also stated during a media interaction on Wednesday that the State Government is also keeping a close eye on the progress of the case. The police arrested four men including Hira Singh, Satnam Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Mohammad Aziz on Monday from Sitarganj in Udham Singh Nagar for allegedly plotting a plan to murder Saurabh Bahuguna on the basis of a complaint lodged by Umashankar Dubey, a BJP leader and acquaintance of the minister. As per the officials, Hira Singh is one of the main accused who allegedly made the plan to kill the minister while he was in a Haldwani jail. Singh allegedly held Bahuguna responsible for shutting down his illegal mining business and for his imprisonment. Considering that the accused could be in touch with other co-conspirators, the police have have stepped up security at Bahuguna’s residence as well while investigating the case
