The police on Thursday arrested six accused including a woman on charges of gangrape and murder of the 13-year-old girl whose body was found on the Haridwar-Delhi National Highway on June 24. The police are yet to nab three other accused in the case including former BJP leader Aditya Raj Saini. The police have booked all accused under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The Haridwar senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal said that Nitin, who knew the minor, made a plan with his friends to gangrape her. He called the victim under the pretext of a birthday party, took her to a remote area of the city and made her drink beer to get her drunk. They later raped her and left her near her home and threatened her  against telling anyone about this incident. However, the victim reportedly went to her friend Amit Saini’s house to get help rather than going to her own home. Saini’s parents were also present at home but he took her into his room. He also allegedly took advantage of her and later scolded her when she told him about the rape.

The SSP said that Saini and his parent’s also allegedly beat her and shoved her outside the house thinking that the minor’s condition could cause trouble for them as well. However, the victim got injured when her head hit the gate after which she reportedly fell unconscious. Realising this could lead them to legal trouble, Saini took her near the highway and pushed her in front of a vehicle and left the place after ensuring she had died.

After analysing footage of over 900 CCTV cameras and call records of 100 phone numbers, the police finally arrested six accused on Thursday. Those arrested include Amit Saini (26) and his mother Shashi Devi, Nitin (20), Nikhil (20), Tushar (20) and Mausam (19). Amit’s father Madanlal Saini, Amit’s cousin and former BJP leader Aditya Raj Saini and Rubi Saini are absconding. They had allegedly helped him in this crime. The SSP said that they will be nabbed soon.
