Six cases registered over alleged financial irregularities of Rs 130 crore

The police have registered six cases against officials and construction agencies at Nehru Colony police station in Dehradun over alleged financial irregularities and misappropriation of about Rs 130 crore in government projects including those under the Tourism department and Government Doon Medical College hospital (GDMC).

The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said the police filed the cases based on a complaint by additional project manager of Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam, Unit-1, Sunil Kumar Malik. He informed that the first case involves the Uttarakhand Skill Development and Employment department, where Rs 1,517.50 lakh was reportedly released for 15 government industrial training institutes under the Special Programme for Assistance (SPA) scheme. Due to unavailability of land, funds amounting to Rs 600.16 lakh, meant for six institutes in different locations, were allegedly diverted through inter unit transfer for other departmental works.

The police have registered a case against Shiv Asare Sharma, Pradeep Kumar Sharma and Virendra Kumar Ravi under relevant sections, Singh said. The second case pertains to the construction of disaster relief centres. Despite not acquiring land, funds amounting to Rs 428 lakh were allegedly misappropriated. A case has been registered against Pradeep Kumar Sharma and Virendra Kumar Ravi under relevant sections. In the third case, irregularities amounting to Rs 159.85 lakh were reported in Tourism department construction projects. The police registered a case against Shiv Sharma, Pradeep Kumar Sharma and Ram Prakash Gupta under relevant sections. The fourth case involves an alleged misappropriation of Rs 10,971.65 lakh.

The SSP informed that as per the complainant, the accused did not fulfill their responsibilities and misused funds. A case has been filed against them too. Singh informed that the fifth case involved the alleged irregularities of Rs 993 lakh in the construction of the OPD block at GDMC. The police have registered a case against Satish Kumar Upadhyay under relevant sections. The sixth case involves financial irregularities in the Backup Energy Project, laying of ABC conductors and revival of existing streetlight infrastructure. The accused, Pradeep Kumar Sharma, allegedly misappropriated Rs 562.785 lakh. The police have registered a case against him.

According to SSP, all these cases date back to the period before 2018-19. Following a detailed departmental investigation, financial irregularities amounting to approximately Rs 130 crore were confirmed after which the complainant registered these cases. The police have started the investigation, he said.
