Six persons have died and at least three were injured after the jeep they were travelling in fell off the road in the Chakisain Tehsil of Pauri district on Monday evening. According to official sources, five persons had died on the spot while the sixth persons died later while being administered treatment for injuries.
According to official sources, the mishap occurred on the stretch of the road between Syoli Talli and Syoli Malli when the jeep fell down the mountainside. The Paithani police station officer informed that the accident which occurred at about 6 PM killed five persons on the spot while four persons were injured. The injured were taken to the Paubo hospital. One of the injured persons died later. The jeep was carrying persons back from a marriage function when the mishap took place. On receiving information about the mishap, the police and local administration reached the site of the mishap and rescued the injured while retrieving the bodies with the help of local residents.
The Pauri district magistrate Vijay Kumar Jogdande and other officials also reached the hospital to check on the condition of the injured persons.
