Six Himachal residents killed in accident in Doon

Six people including two children died in Dehradun’s Doong area after the car they were travelling in fell into a 800- metre deep gorge on Wednesday. A man named Jeet Bahadur (35) also sustained injuries and is under treatment, the officials said. They informed that the victims belonged to Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district and were going to visit the Chalda Maharaj temple in Dehradun district. The car was going to Tyuni via Atal when the car crashed into a deep gorge of about 800 metres. The officials said that the police received the information of the accident in the afternoon after which police teams reached the spot. The search and rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was also called to the spot who retrieved six bodies and one injured man from the gorge. The rescue team brought the injured man and six bodies to the main road via an alternative route with the help of locals. The man was immediately sent to hospital for treatment and the bodies were handed over to the police. According to the officials, the car was possibly overspeeding which led to the accident but the police are yet to ascertain the cause. The police are investigating the matter, they added. The police have identified all six deceased as Sanju (35), Sanjana (21), Divyansh (10) and Suraj (35) along with his wife Sheetal (25) and son Yash (5). The victims belonged to the same family. The officials stated that the police have informed the families of the victims and will hand over the bodies after completion of the necessary procedure.
