Six Sigma India and Wheels Global USA have launched 10 telemedicine centres in the rural and high- altitude areas across India, including Uttarakhand, on the occasion of 75th World Health Day on Friday.
Importantly, out of the 10 rural telemedicine centres launched across India, five are in Uttarakhand. These are Kedarnath, Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Rudranath and Haridwar. Other centres are located in Jhajjar in Haryana, Chennai in Tamil Nadu, Tirupattur in Tamil Nadu, Hong in Arunachal Pradesh and Mashobrain Himachal Pradesh.
The chief executive officer (CEO), Six Sigma, Anita Bhardwaj said that these telemedicine centres are well-equipped to provide medical consultation to over 5000 people per centre. “The access to healthcare services is critical for quality health but the rural and tough terrains residents face a variety of impediments due to long distance and financial issues. The facility enables real time telemedicine consultation with doctors through audio / video technology and portable equipment.”
The principal services include consultation with doctors, diet consultation with dieticians, blood glucose, weight, BMI and Pulse Oximetry, blood pressure measurement, ECG, basic lab test with readymade kit, pathology report consultation and referral facilities with top hospitals like AIIMS and SGRH.
Speaking of the list of consultation, Bhardwaj said that general medicines, obstetrics gynecology, cardiology, pediatrics, psychiatry, orthopaedics, dermatology, physiotherapy consultation, pharmacy consultation, Dental and AYUSH figure in the list.
Bhardwaj further said that India’s economic growth is closely tied to the health of its people; they were implementing this year’s theme – Health for All. “From reducing the incidence of diseases, lowering the burden on the healthcare system and improving the quality of life, to being more economically prudent in the long run, the benefits of preventive healthcare with telemedicine are going to change the paradigm of health services,” she said.
