Six young lives lost in tragic accident in Doon

PNS | DEHRADUN

A tragic accident took place near ONGC intersection in Dehradun in the wee hours of Tuesday. The police informed that a call was received reporting a severe collision between an Innova car and a container truck around 1:33 AM.

The officials said that the police reached the scene, where they found that the Innova had collided with the rear end of the container truck. The car was completely destroyed. The police informed that the accident claimed the lives of six young passengers on the spot, while a seventh passenger was found critically injured and was immediately transferred to Synergy Hospital for treatment.

The deceased were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Coronation hospital, Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and Indresh hospitals’ morgues.

The officials said that the initial reports suggest that the container was approaching from Kishan Nagar Chowk, while the Innova was coming from Ballupur Chowk towards Dehradun. During the container’s crossing, it appears the Innova driver misjudged the speed and distance of the truck, attempted to cross after assuming the container had cleared. In a rushed attempt, the vehicle collided with the back of the container, resulting in the fatal crash. Initial investigations suggest overspeeding as a likely cause of the accident.
