Smart Ration Cards are finally here
Distribution to begin within a week
The Dehradun district administration will commence the distribution of the smart ration cards to over three lakhs beneficiaries in the district within a week.
Informing this here today, the Dehradun district supply officer (DSO), Jaswant Singh Kandari said that the administration has made most of the necessary arrangements and the remaining will be done by this week. According to him, there are about 3,75,000 eligible beneficiaries in the district who will receive the new smart ration cards. Kandari said that it is a regular procedure which occurs in every five years in which old ration cards of beneficiaries are renewed but this time, they will receive the smart ration cards rather than the usual ration cards. Explaining further about the new smart ration cards, Kandari said that new smart ration cards will also come in colours similar to regular ration cards like white, yellow and pink. He further added that the details mentioned in the regular ration card are also mentioned in the back of the new ration card and by scanning the bar code printed on it, further details can be known too by the seller providing ration in the fair price shops. He said that the administration has compiled all the necessary details of all the beneficiaries and has even sent one lakh smart ration cards to print out of which 65,000 cards have been printed already.
Moreover, DSO stated that there are 1050 fair price shops in the district but the smart ration cards will not be distributed through these shops. “The new ration cards in the rural areas of the district will be distributed through the officials in Gram Panchayats while in the urban areas, the distribution will be done through various supply offices across the district and district supply office in Dehradun,” stated Kandari. He further informed that the beneficiaries will have to bring their old ration cards and pay only Rs 17 to get the new smart ration card. According to him, any family member registered in the smart ration card would be entitled to take ration from the fair price shops. He stated that the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had permitted the distribution of the smart ration cards from November 9 in the state and Dehradun district magistrate has directed to commence the distribution in the district within a week.
