In latest news from Uttarakhand, the people of Uttarkashi district are miffed over the slow pace involving the construction of Joshiyada helipad. This helipad was supposed to be completed by March, but the CC work has not even started yet.
Due to lack of helipad facility in the district headquarters, people, pilgrims and tourists remain entirely dependent on Chinyalisaur airstrip, about 45 km away from Uttarkashi town. Taking note of this problem, a DPR worth Rs 72 lakh for the helipad construction had been prepared in 2020. The work started in July 2023 which was to be completed in March, but due to the slow pace of work, it is still incomplete.
While a senior officer of the executing agency said that they have sent several notices to the company entrusted with the work to complete the work, those working for the executing company said that the CC work could not be completed due to rain and it would be handed over to the department in 10 days. A local resident Vijendra Pokhriyal said that once this work is completed it would not only be convenient for passengers and tourists, but contribute to economic development at the local level.
