All government colleges, universities, and their campuses in Uttarakhand will have solar panels installed to reduce electricity expenses. The savings made through this initiative will be utilised for study-related activities and student welfare. Besides this, all government colleges and universities will mandatorily apply for National Accreditation Council (NAC) and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings. This was stated by the Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat in the review meeting of the Higher Education department on Sunday.
During the meeting, he directed departmental officials to implement the concept of green campuses by installing solar panels in all government colleges, universities and their campuses. He urged for a prompt survey of the higher education institutions to prepare a detailed action plan. The minister emphasised that all educational institutions should become eco-friendly by establishing solar rooftops, thereby minimising electricity bills and redirecting the savings towards educational and student welfare activities. Rawat also addressed practical difficulties faced in the admission process for undergraduate and postgraduate classes via the Samarth portal and assured swift resolution. He stated that additional classes will be conducted in colleges to ensure no disruptions in the teaching-learning process. To promote quality education in higher education, he instructed all government universities and colleges to apply mandatorily for NAC and NIRF rankings. He said that participation in national rankings is quite important to enhance the quality of education in the State. Besides this, he also directed officials to ensure that all government college and university campuses are equipped with furniture, sports equipment, computers, smart classrooms, e-boards, laboratories, essential apparatus, electricity, drinking water facilities and toilets. These measures are aimed at ensuring that students face no difficulties in their academic pursuits, he said.
