After the recent stampede at the Mahakumbh at Prayagraj in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, some individuals in Dehradun have postponed their plans to visit the event by a few days. Notably, this tragic incident on Wednesday led to the deaths of at least 30 persons while about 60 were injured. Consequently, a segment of the people in Dehradun has altered its travel plans to Prayagraj. They said that they will visit the Mahakumbh a few days later when the crows thin down to ensure a more comfortable and memorable experience.
Local resident Virendra Batra said that he and his wife had intended to attend the Mahakumbh by January 31. However, given the recent incident of stampede and the overwhelming number of attendees, they have reassessed their plans. They have resolved to visit the Mahakumbh, but have decided to postpone their trip to the following week for a less crowded experience.
“I had intended to attend the Mahakumbh on January 29. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, my plans were cancelled. Still, I scheduled my visit in two to three days. Yet, following the recent stampede incident at the Mahakumbh, my son has decided to cancel my tickets and rebook for the second week of February,” stated senior citizen Hari Mishra. He further said that his son suggested waiting for the crowds to lessen. This would allow him to enjoy his trip to the Mahakumbh in a more peaceful and comfortable manner.
Other residents also stated that they have postponed their plans to attend the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj due to the recent stampede. However, there are many individuals who have not altered their plans and are eagerly looking forward to visiting the Mahakumbh soon.
Local resident Kajal Negi said that she has booked her train tickets for the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj on February 2. She said that her children hade suggested postponing her trip but she has chosen to disregard their advice and is determined to visit the sacred occasion in order to offer prayers for the benefit of all.
