The four- day sports and cultural fest Spandan concluded at UPES on Thursday. It was organised by the university’s student welfare office, cultural committee and sports committee. The inaugural ceremony began with a performance by a pipe band, invited from Jalandhar, accompanied by a display of acrobatics.
Students from all the eight schools of UPES participated in the event. Five teams were formed to compete in relay race, men’s and women’s cricket, volleyball and basketball competitions, street plays and dance and music competitions. The festival also saw the performance by the popular singer Sukh-E.
UPES officials said that the fest is organised to provide the students learning experiences outside classrooms.
Of all the competing teams- Raising the Bar (School of Law), Technocrats (School of Engineering), Python (School of Computer Science), Business Brigade (School of Business Studies) and Phoenix Rising (which comprised members from School of Health Sciences and Technology, School of Design, School of Modern Media and School of Liberal Studies)–Python (School of Computer Sciences) emerged as the ‘Overall Cultural Winners’, while the trophy for the ‘Best Team in Sports’ was bagged by Raising the Bar. The ‘Overall Champions’ trophy was lifted by Raising the Bar.
