Amid the speculations on the place where the upcoming winter session of Assembly would be held, the speaker Ritu Khanduri would undertake a three-day tour of the Chamoli district from November 8. She would take part in the State foundation day programmes organised in the Assembly building of Bharadisain at Gairsain in the district on November 9.
On the occasion of the State foundation day, a parade and cultural programmes would be held in Bharadisain. She will also felicitate the statehood activists and some Vidhan Sabha employees for their services. The speaker would also take stock of the arrangements in the Assembly building in Bharadisain. During her visit she would pay her obeisance at Badrinath shrine on November 10.
The visit of the Assembly speaker to the summer capital Gairsain and her decision to attend the foundation day programmes there comes at a time when the State government is mulling over the place of the upcoming session of Vidhan Sabha. Recently the speaker Khanduri had convened a meeting of the leaders of the legislature parties of the State to discuss the session.
The winter session of the Uttarakhand Assembly must be held before December 16. The Uttarakhand government dithered from holding the budget session of the Assembly in Gairsain in the month of June this year due to the Char Dham Yatra. As per the rules there should not be a gap of more than six months between two sessions of Vidhan Sabha. The Uttarakhand government has to take a decision on the place–Gairsain or Dehradun– for holding the winter session. It is pertinent to mention here that the Pushkar Singh Dhami government has not organised a single session of Assembly in Gairsain. In March 2021, the budget session of Uttarakhand assembly was organised in Gairsain and after that no session has been organised there.
