Speaker warns officers against providing wrong information

Friday, 17 March 2023 | PNS | BHARADISAIN

In a stern warning to the government officers concerned, the Assembly speaker Ritu Khanduri has said that strict action would be taken against those providing wrong information to the Assembly secretariat.  She has also set up an inquiry on the allegation of the Jaspur MLA Adesh Chauhan that wrong information was provided by the government officers to the Assembly secretariat based on which the speaker refused to admit a breach of privilege motion moved by him.

The Jaspur MLA Chauhan again raised the issue of his breach of privilege motion in the State assembly on Thursday. Presenting some documents he said that the claim that the subject is subjudice is not correct as the case has not been admitted in the court yet. Chauhan said that the contention that he has had the same security personnel from the last six years is also not correct. “I have been without any gunner since August last year and no gunner in the past has been associated with me for more than a year,’’ he said. The leader of opposition (LoP) in the Assembly Yashpal Arya said that it is unfortunate that the officers are providing wrong information to the house. The speaker said that the issue would be inquired and action would be taken against those responsible for giving wrong information to the assembly.

On Tuesday Jaspur MLA Adesh Chauhan had brought a breach of privilege motion against the senior superintendent of police of Udham Singh Nagar.

However the speaker rejected the motion by stating that the matter is sub-judice. This irked the Congress MLAs who created a ruckus in the assembly. Some of the Congress members climbed on the table of the secretary and tore papers following which the speaker suspended 14 MLAs of Congress party for a day.
