Special teams of police officials has been sent to Agra and other various places to gather evidence against the gang members who robbed the Reliance Jewels showroom on Rajpur Road here on November 9. The gang had also reportedly looted a car from Agra in June which was used to commit the robbery in Dehradun. The police had recovered the car from the Selaqui area during checking, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He said that a thorough forensic examination of the said car revealed that its engine and chassis number (Vehicle identification number) were obliterated to prevent it from identification. He said that as per the clue gathered by the forensic team, it was revealed that the car was booked by two persons from Delhi to Agra in June. The driver of the car was allegedly held hostage in the Kandoli police station area of Agra district by some robbers. They looted the car and escaped with it, as per the SSP. He said that a case of robbery was also registered in Agra on June 10 by the victim. The police have found some evidence against the accused considering which a special police team has been sent to Agra to investigate and gather more evidence, said Singh. Besides this, the police have also received information that the five robbers stayed in Haridwar for three to four days before committing the robbery in Dehradun. The SSP said that the police have also received information about unsuccessful attempts of robbery with similar patterns in Madhya Pradesh’s Katni and Maharashtra’s Latur. The features of the absconding accused in these two incidents appear to match with the accused involved in the Dehradun robbery. The police suspect that these are the same gang members and have started investigating the case from this angle as well. Besides this, the company that supplied goods and pieces of jewellery to the showroom two days before the incident is also under the scanner of the police as the robbers reportedly had information about the large supply, said SSP. He said that teams have been formed to investigate different aspects of the case. The police are investigating the case from every angle and interrogating every suspicious person in connection with the increasing number of incidents of robbery in Reliance Jewels showrooms across the county, added Singh.
