SPECS trains Garhwal youths in mobile phone repairing

A mobile phone repairing training programme being organised in Rudraprayag district is enabling the local youths to opt for self employment.  

As part of electronic waste management and minimisation programme, a seven-day free of cost training programme is being organised at various blocks of Rudraprayag district by Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists, Dehradun (SPECS) with the support of Uttarakhand Council for Science and Technology, Dehradun (UCOST) and National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS).

Presently, the repairing course is being organised at Government Inter College, Agastyamuni block of Rudraprayag district. On the first day of the training, SPECS provided the participants from Agastyamuni, Ukhimath and Jakholi, details about keypad mobile and touch screen mobile. The finer technical details about motherboard used in the two types of mobiles and all aspects of repairs in these mobiles were shared with the participants. Expert trainer Rehan Siddiqui imparted the training on mobile repairing.  

Programme coordinator Neeraj Uniyal informed that e-waste minimisation and collection centres have been established at block level. While one such centre is at Kimana Gram Panchayat in Jakholi, another is set up at the cooperatives shop in Rudraprayag municipal limits and one more at Mansuna Gram Panchayat in Ukhimath. These centres also provide other training linked to e-waste collection, repairing of electronic goods.

Science communicator Jitendra Bhatnagar from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, KK Rai from Lucknow who undertakes folk media campaign using puppets and Madhur Darmola, Brijesh, Akansha, Jayanti, Anjali, Nitin, Manoj, Dharamveer, Renu and Sunit are part of street play team, who are taking part in these training programmes.
