SPECS & UCOST present Science Communicator Awards

As part International Women’s Day and Girls in Science Day observed on February 11, Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS) and Uttarakhand Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) jointly presented Science Communicator Awards -2022to women in the sphere of science in assistance with GATI Samiti and Manthan Society.
The aim of the event was to promote science in women and girls in particular. It was aimed at encouraging women to take up science and technology as a profession while simultaneously also assisting those women already in the profession.
The event began with Sunrise Academy principal Neetu Tomar welcoming the participants. Mona Bali, English lecturer in Nari Shilp Girls Inter College spoke at length on the importance of International Women’s Day and Girls in Science Day. She informed that it was in 2015 that United Nations decided to observe February 11 as International Women’s Day and Girls in Science Day. From 2016, onwards, International Women’s Day and Girls in Science Day is being observed worldwide.
Those who were felicitated on the occasion include child specialist and chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Dr Geeta Khanna, USERC Dehradun director Anita Rawat, UCOST scientist Aparna Sharma, Dayanand Women’s Training College principal Artee Dixit and Guddi Devi who manages e-waste minimisation centre at Bhogpur.
Speaking on the occasion, Pooja Pokhriyal from Sunrise Academy said that the event also saw a special session on Covid-19 pandemic and the audience was informed on ways and means to develop immunity. SPECS secretary Brij Mohan Sharma proposed the votes of thanks while also thanking Sunrise Academy for facilitating the event.
