Spike in tourist footfalls:  Roads experiencing traffic logjams

In latest news from Uttarakhand, with the sudden spurt in the tourist footfalls in the lake city Nainital over the past few days, the residents of the city have been experiencing huge traffic congestion on the roads, particularly during the weekends. Heavy traffic snarls are being witnessed on the principal roads with vehicles remaining stuck bumper to bumper for a long time. The residents say they are happy that the tourists are coming again amidst the pleasant climate but they stress that the authorities must step in to effectively resolve the traffic congestion problem that recurs every time when there is a spike in the tourist footfalls.

The tourists are visiting the tourist destinations like Botanical Garden, zoo, Snow View, Kilbari, Pangut, Hanumangarh, Saritatal, Kainchi Dham, Bhawali, Bhimtal, Sattal, Naukuchiatal, Gagar and Mukteshwar.

The commuters said that the Mall Road and Rusi bypass among others had seen the worst traffic bottlenecks with the vehicles either remaining stuck or crawling along the heavily congested roads.  

However, the hoteliers and those associated with the tourism trade look exalted with the steady increase in the tourist footfalls after the rain -spawned slump for a couple of months.
