Spin wizard R Ashwin retires from international cricket

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE

India’s premier off-spinner R Ashwin (38) took the cricketing world by surprise with his retirement decision with immediate effect when the Test series against Australia is on. He is the second highest wicket-taker for India in Tests with 537 in 106 games, leaving him only behind Anil Kumble (619 wickets). However, he will continue to play club cricket.

“I won’t take too much of your time. Today will be the last day for me as an India cricketer.” This is what Ashwin said at the end of the drawn third Test in Brisbane at a joint press conference with the captain Rohit Sharma. He refused to take any questions and left.
