Despite the adverse geographical conditions, the dedication of the State’s youth towards sports is quite commendable and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also recently praised their performance in the Asian Games. It is the time people accept that sports are equally important as quality education. The Sports minister Rekha Arya said this during the annual meet programme organised by The Doon School on the occasion of the completion of 75 years of the Doon Athletics Association on Sunday. She said that the hard work of such people and associations is behind the struggle due to which the State has been decorated with medals in various national and international competitions. Arya said that she feels that at least two generations have been involved in taking the State to this level. Such efforts have been making youngsters work toward their dream of being a successful sportsperson. She said, “Despite the adverse geographical conditions, the dedication towards sports among our youth is the result of such initiatives and efforts. The PM had also praised the State’s contribution in the Asian Games. This shows how far we have come but we still need to work hard to give the best sportspersons to the country.” Addressing the students Arya said that today sports are equally important as education in life as it has the potential of providing everything from a healthy body, mind and a successful career. It also teaches discipline and team spirit which play a crucial role in life, she added.
