Sports department to seek Rs 400 crore for 38th National Games

The directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare will seek Rs 400 crore from the State government to organise the 38th National Games successfully in the State. The director of Sports and Youth Welfare Jitendra Sonkar informed that the department intends to seek Rs 400 crore for the forthcoming national games scheduled to take place next year in the State. The demand will be considered in the next Vidhan Sabha session, he said.
Commenting on the preparation for the upcoming national games, he said that 90 per cent of the infrastructure preparations have already been completed by the department. He emphasised that within the state 34 sports will be part of the national games, with 16 games scheduled to be played in Dehradun. The Maharana Pratap Sports College will host the athletic events, while the Parade Ground will be the venue for badminton matches, he said.
“The upcoming National Games are scheduled to take place in October 2024. The duration of the games will be 14 days, with an additional two days dedicated to the opening and closing ceremonies. The selection of the company responsible for organising the event will be finalised by January. Further, the final phase of preparation for the national games will be completed upon receiving approval from the Indian Olympic Association,” said Sonkar.
He further said that individuals who win medals in the national games will be eligible for direct employment through the government’s out-of-turn employment scheme.
