Following the direction of Sports minister Rekha Arya, the Sports department has sent a letter to the Ministry of Communications requesting the early allocation of a four-digit toll-free number for a dedicated helpline. Informing about this, Arya emphasised that the organisation of the National Games has been decentralised to ensure greater representation from various districts. Competitions will take place simultaneously in multiple locations, which has highlighted the need for a centralised toll-free helpline.
The Sports department has formally asked for the allocation of a toll-free number, expecting the service to be available from January 10 to February 28, 2025, she said.
She further added that the 38th National Games are scheduled to be inaugurated on January 28 and will run until February 14. Preparations for the event are in full swing and the need for a helpline that provides information about the event schedule is considered essential.
Arya further stated that this toll-free number will not only allow players, coaches and support staff to seek immediate assistance in case of any issues but will also provide the general public with information about the event schedule. “We are making arrangements to ensure that this toll-free number offers uninterrupted service 24 hours a day,” she said.
Additionally, special principal secretary of Sports, Amit Sinha said that having a dedicated toll-free helpline service is crucial for smooth communication and to provide timely assistance to all stakeholders during the 38th National Games. The request has been made to the Ministry of Communications for the allocation of the toll-free number and they hope to initiate this facility soon, he said.
