The Sports minister Rekha Arya said that the sports scholarship scheme for students in the 15-21 years age group will start soon in the State to encourage the youngsters towards sports. She said this while inaugurating Pandit Nain Singh Surveyor Mountaineering Training Institute (PNSSMTU) on Friday in Pithoragarh. Arya said that the State government and Sports department are undertaking various efforts to prioritise sports and athletes.

In order to promote sports and incentivise sportspersons, the government will soon launch a sports scholarship scheme catering to students in the 15 to 21 years age group. This proposal has received the approval of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. This scheme will provide opportunities for athletes in the State to excel and refine their talents. Arya said that the Sports department is planning to establish open gyms in the Pithoragarh district to encourage the public to maintain their wellbeing.

The Sports minister further said that there is nothing better than sports if people want to remain healthy. By actively participating in sports, individuals can ensure the wellbeing of both their physical and mental health. She further said that the upcoming State-level and Khel Mahakumbh sports events organised by the training institute will enhance the performance of athletes in the national games.

Commenting on the PNSSMTU Arya said that this institute will prove to be a milestone for adventure tourism enthusiasts as they will now be able to get training from here. “Through this institute, we will establish a new dimension in the field of training and education in Uttarakhand. Along with this, the sports department will soon start many big adventure courses and mountaineering training in PNSSMTU, which will benefit adventure tourism enthusiasts,” said Arya.
