The Sports minister Rekha Arya said that to encourage sportsmanship among players, a sports university along with a hostel for girls will be made in the State. She said this in a State level Khel Mahakumbh which was organised in Rudrapur.
Speaking on the occasion, Arya said various schemes have been launched by the State government to support sports and athletes, including the Mukhyamantri Udyyaman Yojana and the Sports Development Fund. Moreover, the government plans to provide job opportunities for players and is committed to building a sports university and a girls’ college/hostel.
She further added that the Khel Mahakumbh serves as a platform for our players to showcase their talents and also works towards nurturing their hidden potential. Following the Khel Mahakumbh, the department is planning to organise State-level competitions to provide the State’s players with the opportunity to participate in the national games scheduled for the following year. She further requested the players to refrain from drug usage to accomplish their goals in life. She emphasised that addiction is detrimental to people’s aspirations and destroys their dreams.
The Sports minister also said that sports is not only an avenue to cultivate a healthy body but also a healthy mind. Further, sports instills discipline in life, promote teamwork and develop leadership skills, she added.
