Spurred by KC directive, civic body swings into anti-encroachment action

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the municipal council has come into the action mode after Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat directed it to submit the report on encroachment across the district within 15 days. The civic body’s executive officer Atul Bhandari visited various areas of the town, including Bara Pathar, Tibetan market and new Palika market, identified illegal constructions and had encroachments on tourist places removed. He said that after they had threatened to remove unauthorised constructions in front of shops in New Palika market and Tibetan market, the encroachers assured to remove these within 24 hours. He made it clear to the shop owners of New Palika market and Tibetan market that only those who have been allotted shops would be allowed do business.
During the inspection, he found traders selling edible items in Pant Park area designated as non-vending zone. He said that with the High Court having identified vending zones to stop food trade in Pant Park, food vends would be removed.
