Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) has constructed a rainwater harvesting tank with a capacity of 1.5 lakh litres for toilet use. Stating this, the SRHU president Vijay Dhasmana highlighted the university’s establishment of a separate Water and Sanitation (Watson) department in 1998, demonstrating its long-standing commitment to water conservation. At present, 12 rainwater harvesting recharge pits have been made in the SRHU campus to collect rainwater and boost groundwater levels. Additionally, Dhasmana mentioned the construction of similar rainwater harvesting tanks with a capacity of 1.5 lakh litres for toilets in various faculties of the university.
Deputy director of the university Nitesh Kaushik said that the university’s public restrooms are currently being furnished with waterless urinals that utilise cutting-edge technology. As of now, over 100 of these waterless urinals have been established in the initial stage. It is planned that all public restrooms on the campus will eventually feature these waterless urinals, he added.
