SSP forms teams to check supply of spurious medicines

The Dehradun superintendent of police Ajai Singh constituted teams and sent them to various states to seize consignments of spurious medicines which was supplied by a gang recently busted by the police. This initiative was taken to prevent the distribution of these spurious medicines to local chemists as it will put consumer’s lives at risk, said Singh. The police on October 14 arrested two men, Sachin Sharma (40) and Vikas (32) on charges of manufacturing spurious medicines and supplying them across the country. The police conducted raids at their factory and flat in Haridwar and seized about 30 lakhs of spurious medicines and equipment worth lakhs. They had been allegedly selling spurious medicines along with his accomplices using the name of a Gurugram-based company Jagsonpal Pharmaceuticals Limited for the past few years. In the last month alone, the accused have reportedly sold a consignment of spurious medicines worth Rs 90 lakh to a single supplier, said SSP. He said that the accused have sent consignments of spurious medicines to more than 40 places in various states. As per the investigation so far, the accused have done a business of over Rs seven crore in the past two years. Singh said that the drug controller of Dehradun is contacting their counterparts in the districts of states where the consignments of spurious medicines were sent in the past few weeks.  Besides this, the Dehradun police are also reaching out to respective SSPs in other states to ensure better coordination with the Health department at their level to confiscate the spurious medicines, said SSP.
