Staff appointed to model vaccination centre at Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Personnel including security guards, sanitation workers and others have been recently assigned to the newly opened model vaccination centre at the Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital. Stating this, district immunisation officer Dr Dinesh Chauhan said that the centre was inaugurated by the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat, along with the district magistrate and the then Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Sanjay Jain. He said that during the initial stages of the centre’s operations, it became clear that the staffing levels were insufficient to meet the demands. Consequently, following the district magistrate’s guidance, the health department has submitted a letter to the PRD department and other relevant departments to request additional personnel for the centre.

As a result, a new staff member has recently been appointed at the hospital. He stated that the relevant departments have sent qualified staff for designated positions, which include one ward boy, two PRD personnel for security at the centre, two sanitation workers and one data operator. He also said that, in addition to this, four Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) are currently providing services. However, to improve service delivery, an average of ten ANMs from different hospitals have been temporarily assigned to the centre on a rotational basis. He said that, given the shortage of ANMs at the centre, the health department has recently sent a letter to the managing director of the National Health Mission (NHM) regarding the recruitment of permanent ANMs for the centre.

It will be recalled the vaccination centre has been established within the hospital premises specifically for pregnant women and children. Unlike other centres, this vaccination centre operates seven days a week, providing services from 8 AM to 8 PM daily. The main objective of this centres extended hours is to accommodate working parents who may struggle to find time to have their children vaccinated during typical hours. With this facility, parents can visit the center anytime and on any day.
