State Commission for Women unveils new logo
The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) conducted a Men For Women seminar to recognise the contribution of men in promoting women empowerment initiatives in the State. Noted environmentalist and the founder of Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO), Anil Joshi was the chief guest of the seminar who also unveiled the new logo of USCW on Wednesday. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Joshi stated that Uttarakhand still needs strong representation of women to provide women here a better life. He also suggested to the chairperson of the commission, Vijay Barthwal to conduct a national level seminar for women to felicitate them for their contribution while asking for suggestions on what they expect from the government to improve their condition. Speaking on the occasion, Barthwal also stated that this seminar was conducted to recognise the efforts made by men to empower women. She also congratulated Nehal Gupta who has designed the new logo of USCW. “We had conducted a contest of making a logo for the commission in which Nehal Gupta won,” said Barthwal. The commission also presented Gupta prize money of Rs 5,100.
Various men from different organisations shared their experiences of uplifting women in various parts of the State. One of such men, JM Singh who was also felicitated by the commission for work against domestic violence in rural areas, stated how crucial it is to sensitise men towards women’s issues. “We consistently work to sensitise men towards women’s issues in rural areas and also hold functions regularly to felicitate such local men who raise their voice against domestic violence and stand against gender discrimination,” said Singh. The commission also felicitated four men who have contributed to the empowerment of women across the State.
