The Uttarakhand government is going to prepare a concrete plan to ensure the welfare of Agniveers. These measures include a proposal to provide a quota for recruitment in Uttarakhand Police and other government departments for the Agniveers who have completed their four years of service in the armed forces. In addition to this, the State government is also preparing to implement a skill training scheme under which the retired Agniveers will be provided training for employment in various sectors. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the officials to prepare a proposal in this regard at the earliest. If needed, a proposal can also be tabled in the coming Vidhan Sabha session.
The CM has issued directions to officials to prepare a concrete plan so that Agniveers who return after completing four years in service do not feel apprehensive about their future. In an informal interaction with the media after a programme here on Sunday, Dhami said that the State government is working seriously for the adjustment of Agniveers. “I too was born in the family of a soldier. When the Agnipath scheme was launched in the nation, we had held discussions with many ex-servicemen and jawans of the State who had returned after spending most of their lives in the armed forces. I had stated in June 2022 also that the Agniveers who return after serving the nation will be accorded priority in the Uttarakhand Police and other departments in the State. If a reservation for Agniveers is needed, we will take a decision to this effect in the cabinet and facilitate job reservation for them. If an Act has to be enacted we will bring that in the Vidhan Sabha.”
The CM reiterated that as a large proportion of youths from Uttarakhand join the army, the State government will leave no stone unturned to adjust the jawans who retire after serving in the armed forces for four years. After their service in the armed forces, the Agniveers should get ample opportunities for jobs and employment. The State will also benefit from the services of the retired Agniveers, he said, while adding that the Soldier Welfare department is preparing a proposal for this purpose.
