State Government’s approval still a far cry for vending zones
Though the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) claimed last year to provide employment opportunities to over 10,000 locals with the projects like smart vending zones and wedding points across the city, the corporation is still waiting for the approval of the State Government to start these projects. Last year, the corporation announced the construction of 19 smart vending zones and about10 wedding points across the city. The senior officials also asked ward counsellors to recommend locations to set up wedding points which can be used by locals for conduct of wedding ceremonies in affordable rates. However, the officials informed that the MCD had sent a proposal to State Government in October for the approval of these projects but the corporation has not received any response so far. “We have sent the proposal last year but the government’s approval is still pending for the construction of vending zones and wedding points. We have the plans but we can execute them only after getting government’s nod,” said municipal commissioner, Vinay Shankar Pandey.
According to the officials, the corporation has collected the data of most of the active local vendors in the city which will help the MCD team to plan the construction of smart vending zones accordingly. The corporation will commence the preparation for these projects like floating the tenders accordingly as soon as they get the approval, as per the officials.
