The opposition parties and some social organisations are vehemently opposing the service sector policy of Uttarakhand government. On Tuesday a delegation of the opposition parties met the Dehradun district magistrate to submit a memorandum in which they termed the service sector policy of the State government as anti-people. The delegation included leaders of Congress, and Communist Party of India (CPI), CPI- M and Samajwadi Party (SP).
In the memorandum the opposition parties mentioned that on September 12, the State cabinet approved the service sector policy in which there is a provision to provide government land to capitalists on a lease of 99 years. The companies not opting for the benefit of lease will be given 20 to 40 per cent government subsidy. The opposition leaders said that the private companies are being provided subsidies on the pretext of generating employment but everyone knows how much employment such endeavours have generated in the past. They pointed out that the government had promised to bring in a stringent land law in the State but it is providing land on lease to the capitalists. The opposition leaders also submitted such memorandums to the officers in Almora, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh, Ramnagar and other cities of the State.
