State Govt appoints administrators in Panchayati Raj bodies

 The State government has decided to appoint administrators in the Panchayati Raj bodies in all the 12 districts except Haridwar. The term of the Panchayati Raj bodies in these districts is ending later this month and the process of the new elections of the Panchayati Raj bodies has not started yet.

The administrators will govern these bodies for a period of six months or till the constitution of new elected bodies. The order for appointment of administrators was issued by the Panchayati Raj secretary Chandresh Kumar on Tuesday.

 It is pertinent to mention here that the five-year term of the three tier Panchayati Raj bodies commences from the date of their first meeting. The first meeting of all the village Panchayats in the 12 districts of the State after the election was organised on November 28, 2019.

The first meeting of the block Panchayats was held on November 30, 2019 while the first meeting of the district Panchayats was convened on December 2, 2019. As per the rules, the tenure of village Panchayats is ending on November 28 while the term of Block and district Panchayats is ending on November 30 and December 2 respectively.
