The demand for a holiday on the occasion of Bhai Dooj on October 27 has started to emanate from among the employees of the Uttarakhand government not willing to leave the opportunity for an additional paid leave.
The State government has kept Bhai Dooj in the list of restricted holidays but the employee organisations are demanding that a public holiday should be declared on the day. In a letter sent to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand Secretariat Association (USA) has said that the Bhai Dooj has been shifted to the list of restricted holidays only this year and earlier a public holiday used to be observed on the day.
The president of USA, Deepak Joshi said that Bhai Dooj is the festival based on love of brothers and sisters and it is celebrated in all parts of the country so the state government should declare a holiday on this festival. The general secretary of the association Vimal Joshi said that the Uttar Pradesh administration has also declared a public holiday on Bhai Dooj and the State government should announce holiday on this sacred festival of Hindus.
