State level skiing championship begins at Auli

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Jyotirmath

The two-day State level Auli Himalayan Cup and Skiing Championship organised by the Ski and Snowboard Association, Chamoli began at Auli on Thursday. Due to inadequate snow at the Nanda Devi international skiing slope, the event is being held near Auli Top.

The first day of the event saw alpine skiing in the children’s and sub-junior category, under-12. Four-year old Suryand Bhujwan, eight-year old Adhyati Mingwal and other children elicited attention with the performance on the first day of the event.

The association’s head Vivek Panwar said that the event is being held after short preparations so that at least some skiing events may be held at Auli this year. The junior and sub-junior players were unable to play in the national winter games so this is an opportunity for them too to practice their skills further, he said.
