State likely to bid farewell to this year amidst cold conditions

With cold wave like conditions continuing in parts of north India, Uttarakhand too is likely to experience the chill in the last few days of this year. Apart from cold day conditions in parts of the plains, the mountainous regaions in four districts apart from other areas are forecast to experience light rain and snowfall.
The State meteorological centre has issued an orange alert regarding the possibility of cold day to severe cold day conditions at a few places in the plains especially in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts on Friday. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/snowfall is likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh & Dehradun districts and very light to light rain/snowfall is likely to occur at isolated places in remaining districts of Uttarakhand. Snowfall is forecast in placed situated at altitudes of 3,000 metres and above today.
Meanwhile, Dehradun and some other regions in Uttarakhand experienced a cloudy day on Thursday which exacerbated the effects of the cold. On Friday Dehradun is forecast to experience mainly clear to partly cloudy skies with mist likely to occur during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be 20 degrees Celsius and eight degrees Celsius respectively on Friday. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Thursday were 14.6 degrees Celsius and seven degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 19 degrees Celsius and 2.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 15.2 degrees Celsius and 3.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 14.1 degrees Celsius and 4.9 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.
It is pertinent to mention here that though December is about to end in a few days the State has not yet witnessed the rain and snowfall associated with the winter season. This is likely to affect horticulture and agriculture among other aspects.
