Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that development schemes presently are being made for those who genuinely need them. He said that the State government wants to develop border villages to present a model for the nation, especially Himalayan States. Schemes like Ayushman Bharat have brought a change in the lives of the common people with the needy and those lacking resources now enabled to seek medical treatment in the best hospitals. He said that instructions have been issued to hospitals to ensure that there are no complaints regarding delay in treatment of card holders. Dhami said this at the launch of climate resilient livelihood for disaster prone region of Uttarakhand on Saturday. As part of this scheme facilitated jointly by SBI Foundation,   Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO) and Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST), livelihood and self employment opportunities will be encouraged through women self help groups in border regions of the State. Under this programme, the locals in 10 border villages will be prepared with livelihood skills considering the economy and ecology of the area along with challenges posed by disasters.

The CM said, “Border villages are valubale for us as they are not just guardians of the border but also part of our priceless heritage. The border areas are our roots which should be watered regularly. The basic mantra of the government is to remove the inequalities between villages and cities and make a strong village based economy our foundation. We are committed to developing villages in the Mana-Munsyari and Askot-Arakot border regions not as last villages but as first villages as stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.

HESCO founder Anil Prakash Joshi, UCOST director general Durgesh Pant, Lalit Mohan of SBI Foundation and others were also present on the occasion.
