State to procure 600 buses including 150 of BS-VI category for UTC

The Uttarakhand transport minister Chandan Ram Dass said that the State Government will soon procure 600 buses  for Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) out of which, 150 buses would be of BS-VI category. Dass conducted a review meeting of the works of the transport department and UTC on Thursday. He said that a proposal regarding the appointment of the dependents of the deceased employees would be presented in the department’s board meeting on October 21. He said that the department is also making efforts to tackle the issue of shortage of Roadways buses on mountainous areas of the State. 

He said that the department has opened vehicle fitness centres in six main cities of the State and will soon open four more after the approval of the Central government. He said that the government is also aiming to commence a facility of the mobile fitness team to make facilities of the fitness centre available even in the remote villages. Dass also ordered the officials concerned to make all depots across the State hi-tech. He said that 52 schemes of the department will also be made available online soon. The minister also said that the revenue of the State has increased 35 per cent in the past six years due to the transport department. He also expressed his concern over recurring road accidents in the State. He said that the department will start marking all vulnerable locations and black spots where accidents generally occur to take necessary actions like installation of CCTV cameras and construct dividers among other initiatives to minimise the risk of accidents. The transport secretary Arvind Singh Hayanki and managing director (MD) of UTC Rohit Meena were also present in the meeting along with other officials.
