Like the central universities, the state universities, with the consent of their respective state governments can also adopt the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) and take its score for admissions in their various Under Graduate, integrated  Masters  and certificate courses.

The Union Minister of Minister of Education and skill development Dharmendra Pradhan said that it is for the state governments to decide  whether their universities can adopt the CUCET or not. Interacting with the media persons at the office of Uttarakhand BJP, Pradhan said that 42 central universities have adopted the CUCET which will help in enhancing quality of education and bringing collectively and homogeneity in the selection process. On the question of state universities adopting the CUCET, the union minister said that since education is in the concurrent list of the constitution, the state government will have to take a call on it and if they decide we will welcome it.

It is worth mentioning here that for the first time in the history the union government has decided to hold a common entrance examination for all the Central universities of the country. All the 42 central universities of the countries including the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi University and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) would take admission in their undergraduate (UG), integrated masters and certificate courses on the basis of CUCET score. The test would be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Apart from bringing homogeneity and transparency in the admission process, the CUCET will put an effective end to the pressure on the students to score good marks in the class XII examinations.

The Union minister said that there are about 40 Lakh students in Uttarakhand and the New Education Policy (NEP) which was implemented after a gap of three decades by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to provide necessary skill sets and increase the employability of the youth.
