State witnesses rainy weekend, more in store today

Various parts of the State witness rain, hail and thunderstorm with snowfall also being reported in some high altitude regions on Saturday. The State meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning (Watch) for Sunday regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely to occur at a isolated places in Tehri, Pauri, Dehradun, Almora, Champawat, Haridwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts. Light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at most places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts and at many places in Tehri, Dehradun, Pauri and Haridwar districts while and very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely at a few places in the remaining districts. Light to moderate snowfall is likely to occur at altitudes of 2,500 metres and above.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky. One to two spells of light to moderate rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are also likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 22 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Saturday were 23 degrees Celsius and 14.5 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 20.2 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, nine degrees Celsius and five degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 9.5 degrees Celsius and 5.6 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light to medium rain was reported in many places in the State on Saturday.
