Statehood activist Sushila Baluni passes away

Noted statehood activist and former chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women, Sushila Baluni breathed her last on Tuesday. According to sources, the health of the 84-year-old Baluni deteriorated on Tuesday afternoon after which she was admitted to a private hospital where she breathed her last in the evening. Her last rites are slated to be conducted in Haridwar on Wednesday.
The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and leaders from across the political spectrum expressed grief at her demise and paid their tributes to her. In his condolence message the governor expressed grief at Baluni’s demise and stated that her contribution for the creation of Uttarakhand will always be remembered.
Expressing grief, Dhami wished strength to the bereaved family members and stated that Baluni’s role in the Statehood movement will never be forgotten by the people. Cabinet ministers including Satpal Maharaj and leaders of all parties also expressed grief at her demise. Despite her age Baluni had remained politically and socially active till some time ago. It is pertinent to mention here that the aged Statehood activist was not keeping well for some time now.
