Govt working to secure GI tag for more products from U’khand- Dass

The State’s MSME and Transport minister Chandan Ram Dass was the chief guest at the India GI Fair- 2022 organised by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts, New Delhi at Greater Noida on Saturday. The fair has Geographical Indicator (GI) products and crafts from all States and is intended to encourage geographical diversity and build a brand image of GI tag products. In addition to visiting the Uttarakhand State pavilion at the exhibition, the minister also viewed the pavilions put up by various other States at the event. Appreciating the products displayed at the Uttarakhand State stall, the minister said on the occasion that such fairs will help in conserving the intellectual heritage of the community and culture while also developing an identity for the same at the international level. The minister further said that seven products of Uttarakhand securing the GI tag will enable these to become popular not only in India but also across the world. These products include Uttarkahand Bhotia Dan, Uttarakhand Aipan, Uttarakhand Ringal Craft, Uttarakhand Tamta Products, Uttarakhand Thulma, Kumaon Chyura Oil and Munsyari Rajma. With better branding of these products in the market, the demand for them will also increase. Further, these products will fetch a better price which in turn will directly benefit all those connected to the making of these products. Dass further said that work is underway to secure the GI tag for other products of Uttarakhand. These products include candle, Kumaoni Rangwali Pichauda, Uttarakhand Pankhi, Chamoli Wooden Ramman Mask, Uttarakhand Likhai-Wood Carving Craft and Nettle Fibre among others. In order to further develop the GI tagged Aipan and Ringal products, the State government has established growth centres at Haldwani in Nainital district and at Peepalkoti in Chamoli district. According to officials, a total of 16 artisans along with Uttarakhand Aipan, Tamta products, Bhotia Dan, Ringal craft products, Himadri Emporium, Naina Devi Growth Centre, Ulka Nidhi Swayatt Sahakarita- Pithoragarh and Dalip Metal Works- Bageshwar are part of the State’s pavilion in the ongoing exhibition in Greater Noida. Industry joint director Mrityunjay Singh, Haldwani district industry centre general manager Vipin Kumar and other officials were also present on the occasion.
