Amidst the rising temperatures expected to continue for some days especially in the plains, doctors have advised the public to refrain from exposing themselves to the sun. They further emphasised that juices sold on the roadside may lack in hygiene and pose an increased risk of infection, particularly during the summer. Individuals should carry their water bottles when venturing outdoors, the doctors said.
The maximum temperature rose four degrees above normal to about 40 degrees Celsius in Dehradun on Friday.
The deputy medical superintendent of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital Dr Dhananjay Dobhal told this correspondent that the level of mercury in the State has been gradually rising. During the summer season, individuals are more susceptible to infections. He further emphasised the importance of staying hydrated at all times. Therefore, it is recommended that people increase their water intake He also emphasised the importance of avoiding consuming beverages or juices from unhygienic sources as they can cause serious infections. Instead, individuals should carry drinking water with them while outside their homes and ensure to cover their bodies fully to minimise exposure to heat, Dobhal said.
A physician at CMI hospital Dr Anshika Jain stated that as temperatures rise, cases of heat stroke among individuals also tend to increase. Symptoms such as dehydration, fever and loss of consciousness are common with heat stroke. To prevent such issues caused by high temperatures, individuals should increase their water intake. Additionally, when venturing outside, it is advisable to wear full-body clothing and avoid exposure to the afternoon heat when it is most intense.
