Step up ‘plastic-free Uttarakhand’ campaign: CM

With plastic waste continuing to pose a major threat to the environment and human health, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the ‘plastic-free Uttarakhand’ campaign should be undertaken extensively and on a wider scale. He said everyone should put in effort for conservation of environment and biodiversity in the State. The CM was addressing a meeting of the officers of State administration in a virtual mode from New Delhi on Thursday. He said that schools, colleges, non-governmental organisations and organisations of traders should be involved in the campaign.

 The CM directed the officers to make arrangements of putting QR code on the plastic bottles in all the religious places of the State on the lines of Kedarnath.

He said that high quality in the field of sanitation should be established for providing a healthy environment to the people of the State. The CM added that the door to door garbage collection should be made 100 per cent in the State.

Dhami said that the people should be made aware about segregating dry and wet waste. The CM said that a meeting with the newly elected public representatives in the urban local bodies will be convened soon. He said that in order to ensure that clean water enters the Ganga river, special emphasis should be placed on the cleanliness of its tributaries. 

The CM said that the Fit India movement should be more boosted in the State and activities such as Yoga and exercise should be organised daily in the educational institutions. He said that the work on the open gym project in all the villages should be expedited.

The CM said that the health department should hold regular camps in all parts of the State and arrangements for regular health check-ups should be made. On a stern note the CM directed that strict action should be taken against those involved in food adulteration by starting an extensive campaign in the State.

 The chief secretary Radha Raturi, secretaries Shailesh Bagauli, Nitesh Jha, Ravinath Raman, Chandresh Yadav, Vinay Shankar Pandey, R Rajesh Kumar and other officers attended the meeting.
